Welcome to Cafe Maharani, a delightful culinary gem located in the heart of Honolulu at 2509 S King St. This cozy Indian restaurant has quickly become a favorite among locals and visitors alike, offering an exceptional dining experience that combines authentic flavors with generous portions.

The moment you step inside Cafe Maharani, you're welcomed by a vibrant atmosphere filled with the aroma of spices that immediately whets your appetite. It’s the perfect antidote to the overpriced, tourist-centric eateries often found in Waikiki. Many patrons, like David Parker Dell, rave about the “extremely tasty” food paired with “huge portions,” making it a must-visit spot for those craving genuine Indian cuisine at fair prices.

One of the standout features of Cafe Maharani is its remarkable selection of Tandoori Kebabs. From the Tandoori Assorted Mix Grill to the Luscious Lamb Kebab, there's something to satisfy every palate. Dishes like the Butter Chicken and Lamb Biryani have received high praise; AM Waldron describes the biryani as “the best” they've ever had—flavorful, tender, and enough to feed an army!

  • Tandoori Assorted Mix Grill: $34.99 - A perfect platter for sharing!
  • Chicken Kebab: $22.99 - Marinated to perfection.
  • Lamb Kebab: $23.99 - A must-try, as recommended by many customers.
  • Whole Tandoori Chicken: $27.99 - A crowd favorite!

The service at Cafe Maharani is equally commendable. Guests report friendly and prompt staff who enhance the dining experience. As Linne Clarke shared, the camaraderie among patrons creates a convivial environment, adding to the overall charm of this hidden treasure.

While comfort and taste are paramount, the aesthetic appeal of the restaurant, adorned with vivid paintings, elevates your dining experience. Visitors like B K appreciate the vibrant atmosphere while enjoying their meal, emphasizing the need to arrive with an empty stomach to savor every bite.

For anyone searching for exceptional Indian food in Honolulu, Cafe Maharani should be on your list. Whether you're a fan of Tandoori, Curry, or simply looking for a hearty meal to share, you won't leave hungry—or disappointed. Don’t forget to try a refreshing Mango Lassi or Rose Lassi to cleanse your palate after a robust meal!

In essence, Cafe Maharani exemplifies what an Indian restaurant should be: flavorful food, generous portions, and a warm atmosphere. As many diners have echoed in their reviews, it truly stands as the best Indian food on the island!

Best hole in the wall restaurant I’ve had in a while. The food is extremely tasty, huge proportions and the only reasonable prices on the island. I highly recommend getting the lamb kebabs. These are enough for a couple to split. Once again big proportions. All their other food is just as tasty. Staff is friendly food is amazing. I highly recommend this place if visiting Waikiki or Honolulu.

Normally when reviews say the portions are large I take it with a grain of salt. In this instance I was so very wrong. Ordered lamb biryani and the tandoori chicken and it was enough food to feed a family of 5…twice. And the food was delicious! Hands down best biryani I have had. Flavorful, tender lamb, and the chicken was just as good. Our only regret was not eating in. I have been utterly defeated by this meal. Definitely recommend!

If you are staying in Waikiki, you are probably about done with overpriced, touristy food and are wishing you knew of a place to go that offers tasty food at a fair price in a vibrant setting. Look no more. There’s a wait for a table at this small restaurant located near the U of H district just up the street from the beach about 1.5 miles from Waikiki. The service is prompt and friendly and the other customers are good natured and convivial-showing us their food choices and sharing smiles! My guy is skeptical of adventurous dining and likes a meat heavy meal, so we ordered the Tandoori party platter and the chicken masala curry with garlic naan. Tandoori can be tricky, often it is dried out or too tough, but all four meats were tender and flavorful. Served with three sauces, we ate through this appetizer in no time. The chicken masala was rich and creamy with hints of spice but not enough to scare away my dining partner. The naan was piping hot! We couldn’t eat all of our shared entree and lamented the lack of microwave at our hotel. With two waters, our final bill was less than 50. A little ding on atmosphere for the odd bathroom experience.

A nice Indian spot in the heart of Honolulu. Went with my friend ordered dinner for 2. We got eggplant appetizer which was very addictive and two entries one of butter chicken and one of the ginger chicken it has a ethnic name but I can't remember. Is good. We both ate a big meal and left with 2 set of leftovers so it was worth it the price.
